What It Is

NAET, and where it came from

NAET stands for Nambudripad's Allergy Elimination Techniques. It was developed in the 1980s by Dr. Devi Nambudripad, a California-based chiropractor and acupuncturist, and it is built on the idea that allergic response is a disruption in the body's energy pathways rather than a permanent fact about you.

Clear the disruption and the body stops reacting to something it should never have been reacting to. That is the premise, and it is why the treatment uses acupressure and chiropractic technique rather than medication.

Most people arrive here having already tried the conventional route. Antihistamines work for some. Allergy shots work for some. For everyone else there has usually been a long stretch of managing symptoms, reading labels, and planning around a season. NAET is for that group.

What It Treats

Three kinds of sensitivity

Tap a card to see examples of what falls into each.

Food allergies

Reactions and intolerances that have you reading every label and eating around a list.

Tap to see examples

Often includes

  • Dairy and lactose
  • Gluten and grains
  • Eggs, nuts and shellfish
  • Sugars and additives

Environmental allergies

The seasonal ones. On Long Island that means a calendar you can set your watch by.

Often includes

  • Tree and grass pollen
  • Ragweed through late summer
  • Dust and dust mites
  • Mold and pet dander

Chemical sensitivities

The reactions hardest to pin down, because the trigger is everywhere and unlabelled.

Often includes

  • Fragrances and cleaning products
  • Detergents and fabric treatments
  • Preservatives
  • Airborne irritants at work

How it shows up

Allergy rarely announces itself as allergy. It arrives as something else entirely.

Often includes

  • Congestion and sinus pressure
  • Skin rashes and hives
  • Digestive discomfort
  • Low energy and poor sleep

How It Works

Identify, then clear

01

Muscle testing

The first job is finding out what you are actually reacting to. That is done through muscle testing, where you are exposed to small amounts of a substance while the practitioner applies pressure to certain areas. Your muscle response indicates the sensitivity.

02

Clearing the pathway

Once the allergens are identified, acupressure and chiropractic technique are used to stimulate the energy pathways involved, with the aim of clearing the disruption behind the sensitivity.

03

One at a time

NAET works through sensitivities in sequence rather than all at once, so a course of visits is normal. Your practitioner sets the order and the pace at your first appointment.

What Patients Report

The change is rarely only the allergy

Patients who have gone through NAET most often describe a reduction in the obvious things: congestion, skin rashes, digestive discomfort. What comes up almost as often is energy and sleep, which is the part people did not connect to allergies until it lifted.

Because NAET aims at eliminating the sensitivity rather than blocking the reaction, some patients find they no longer need to organise their life around avoiding a food or a season. That is the goal of the treatment. Whether it is reached, and how completely, varies from person to person.

Where allergies are also driving headaches, acupuncture for migraines often runs alongside this. Where the picture is broader, herbal support and a full body detox are the usual companions.

NAET is not appropriate for everyone

This treatment should not be undertaken if you:

  • Are pregnant
  • Have a pacemaker
  • Are undergoing chemotherapy

NAET is also not a substitute for emergency medical care. If you have a severe allergy, keep carrying whatever your physician has prescribed for it, and treat any serious reaction as the emergency it is. Bring your full medical history and medication list to your first appointment so we can determine whether NAET is suitable for you before anything begins.

Why Here

NAET is a specialized treatment

It requires specific certification, and not every practice on Long Island offers it. Joseph A. D'Antona, DAOM is a certified NAET practitioner alongside his acupuncture, herbalist and massage therapy credentials, which is what allows this to sit inside a broader plan rather than as a standalone service.

That matters more than it sounds. Allergy rarely travels alone. It arrives with fatigue, disrupted sleep, digestive complaints and headaches, and treating those in the same practice as the allergy itself is the difference between a plan and a referral.

Both offices are open seven days a week, and benefits are verified before your first visit.

Common Questions

Questions we get asked

What is NAET?

Nambudripad's Allergy Elimination Techniques, developed in the 1980s by Dr. Devi Nambudripad, a chiropractor and acupuncturist. It is a non-invasive, drug-free approach based on the idea that allergies stem from disruptions in the body's energy pathways, which can be cleared using acupressure and chiropractic technique.

How do you know what I am allergic to?

Through muscle testing. You are exposed to small amounts of a substance while the practitioner applies pressure to certain areas of the body, and your muscle response indicates the sensitivity. That identification comes before any treatment.

Who should not have NAET?

NAET should not be undertaken by patients who are pregnant, have a pacemaker, or are undergoing chemotherapy. It is also not a substitute for emergency medical care in the event of a severe allergic reaction.

How many sessions does it take?

NAET works through sensitivities one at a time rather than all at once, so a course of visits is expected. The number depends on how many sensitivities are involved and how you respond. Individual results vary.

Do I stop my allergy medication?

Not without speaking to the physician who prescribed it. NAET works alongside conventional care rather than replacing it, and anyone carrying emergency medication for a severe allergy should keep carrying it.
