Reiki for Stress and Anxiety in Lindenhurst, NY
No needles, no pressure, nothing to take. You lie down fully clothed and someone else does the work for an hour.
Why This One
The appointment that asks nothing of you
Most treatment for stress requires something from you. Talk about it. Breathe differently. Change your habits. Hold still while someone puts needles in. All of that has its place, and all of it is work at a point when you may not have much left.
Reiki is the exception. You lie down fully clothed, the practitioner places their hands on or near your body, and that is the entirety of your involvement. Nothing enters you, nothing presses on you, and nobody asks you to explain anything.
For a lot of people that is precisely why it works. Stress is a state of sustained doing. An hour where doing is not required is not a small thing, and patients frequently describe it as the deepest rest they have had in months.
Right Now
Something to do before you get here
Grounding works by moving attention out of your head and into the room. Work down from five.
Five things you can see
Look around wherever you are and name them. Out loud if you can, silently if you cannot. Take your time.
A general grounding technique, not a treatment.
What Patients Notice
Three things that come up most
The tension drops
Reiki is used to reduce stress and tension and to bring clarity to a mind that has been running. It is the immediate effect and the one most people book it for a second time on the strength of.
Sleep improves
Sleep quality is one of the most commonly reported changes. When stress has been keeping you scanning at two in the morning, this is usually the first thing to shift.
Mood and energy lift
Patients report better mood and energy levels alongside an overall sense of peace. Not dramatic, and not immediate for everyone, but it is what keeps people coming back.
There is a seasonal pattern to who books this on Long Island. January, when the holidays are paid for and the dark is still going. September, when everything restarts at once. If you are reading this in one of those windows, you are in good company.
Choosing Between Them
Reiki or acupuncture for anxiety
Both treat stress here, and they go at it from different directions. Most patients end up using one, some use both.
Reiki
No needles and no physical manipulation. Energy work through the hands, aimed at the emotional and energetic side of what is going on.
The right starting point if needles are a barrier, if you want something entirely passive, or if the stress feels more emotional than physical.
Acupuncture
Works on the chemistry. Point work has been shown to decrease the body's production of cortisol, the hormone behind the stress response, and to prompt endorphin release.
The better fit where stress has become physical, and where sleep, digestion or tension are the loudest symptoms. Read about that here.
If you want both, acupuncture and reiki runs them in a single appointment, point work first and energy work second. Where you want the energetic side addressed more specifically, chakra balancing focuses on the body's energy centers directly.
What this is and is not
Reiki is complementary care. It works alongside mental health treatment rather than replacing it, and it is not a treatment for a psychiatric condition. If anxiety is affecting your ability to work, sleep, or get through a normal day, please speak with your physician or a licensed mental health professional. Keep taking anything you have been prescribed and keep your provider informed. If you are in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, call or text 988 to reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, any time.
Common Questions
Questions we get asked
I am sceptical. Should I still book it?
You are not asked to hold any particular view about energy. Reiki is used increasingly within medical settings alongside conventional care, and plenty of patients book it purely because of how they feel afterwards. Scepticism is not a barrier to the appointment working.
Do I have to talk about what is causing the stress?
No. This is not talk therapy and nobody will push. Your practitioner will ask what brought you in, and beyond that you can say as much or as little as you want.
Does anything touch me?
The practitioner's hands rest on or near different parts of your body. There is no pressure, no manipulation and no needles, and you stay fully clothed throughout. If you would rather hands stayed off entirely, say so and they will work near rather than on.
How many sessions before I notice anything?
Many patients notice a difference in how they feel after the first session. The changes that hold, particularly around sleep and mood, tend to build over a course of visits. Individual results vary.
Is it covered by insurance?
Coverage depends on your plan and what is being treated. Submit your details through our intake and insurance page and we will verify benefits before your first visit.
