Your First Visit

The consultation is the treatment

Your first herbal consultation is a comprehensive intake session. We go through your current symptoms, your past health history, your digestion, sleep, stress levels, energy and immune function, and anything else affecting how you feel. Where it is relevant we also look at diet, routines and daily habits.

That length is not padding. Herbal medicine works from patterns rather than isolated symptoms, and the pattern is what the intake is for. Two people can walk in with the same complaint and leave with entirely different formulas, because the thing producing the complaint is different in each of them.

If you are already having acupuncture treatment here, the herbal consultation folds into that plan rather than running beside it. That combination is the most common way patients use this.

    What We Address

Three areas that come up most

    Digestive support

Bloating, sluggish digestion, irregular bowel habits, food sensitivity patterns and general digestive imbalance. Where it fits, our detox package is recommended alongside.

    Stress and sleep

Nervous system overload, difficulty falling asleep, waking in the night, mental restlessness and fatigue from unrefreshing sleep. Often paired with acupuncture for stress.

    Immune health

For patients who feel run down, get sick often, or want better seasonal support. Where sensitivities are involved, allergy elimination is a common companion.

    The Combination

Why herbs and acupuncture work together

Acupuncture regulates circulation, nervous system balance and symptom relief during the visit. Herbal medicine carries that support through the days in between. That is the whole argument, and it is a practical one rather than a philosophical one.

A patient having acupuncture for stress, sleep, digestive discomfort or chronic tension gets a formula that keeps working on the same patterns through the week. Used together, the two tend to hold progress better than either does alone.

Because Joseph A. D'Antona, DAOM is both a licensed acupuncturist and a licensed herbalist, the point prescription and the formula are decided by the same person rather than by two practitioners who never speak. That is not a small detail.

    Important

    Bring your medication list

Herbs interact with prescription medicines, and some of those interactions matter a great deal. This is the single most important reason to get herbal support from a licensed herbalist who has seen your full list rather than from a shelf in a health food store.

Bring everything you take, including supplements, to your first appointment. Tell us if you are pregnant or nursing, since many herbs are not suitable in either. Herbal medicine here is complementary and works alongside your physician's care rather than replacing it, and nothing you are prescribed should be stopped or changed without speaking to the doctor who prescribed it.

    Common Questions

    Questions we get asked

What is included in a herbal consultation?

A one-on-one review of your health history, current symptoms, lifestyle factors and wellness goals. From that, you get personalized recommendations which may include herbal formulas, supplement guidance and supportive wellness strategies.

Can herbal medicine be combined with acupuncture?

Yes, and it usually is. Acupuncture handles symptom regulation during visits while herbal formulas provide continued support between appointments. Both are decided by the same practitioner here.

What conditions does herbal medicine support?

Most commonly digestive concerns, stress, sleep issues, immune health, seasonal wellness and other chronic or recurring imbalances. Recommendations are based on your specific symptoms and your overall health picture rather than on the complaint alone.

Are herbs safe with my medication?

That depends entirely on what you take, which is why nothing is dispensed before your full medication list has been reviewed. Herbs do interact with prescription medicines. Bring everything, including supplements, to your first appointment.

Do you accept insurance for herbal consultations?

We accept insurance and coverage depends on your plan. Submit your details through our intake and insurance page and we will verify your benefits before your first visit so you know what applies beforehand.

Individual results vary. Herbal medicine is complementary care and does not replace medical treatment.
