Founder and Managing Director
Meet Joseph A. D'Antona, DAOM
A licensed acupuncturist, herbalist, and massage therapist practicing in Lindenhurst, NY, and the founder of The Balance Health and Wellness Center.
Credentials
Trained across four disciplines
Joe holds a doctorate in acupuncture and Oriental medicine and is licensed in New York State. He is also a certified NAET practitioner, which is what allows the practice to offer allergy elimination without medication.
He has practiced on Long Island for more than twenty years, and works across acupuncture, herbal medicine, and massage therapy rather than referring patients out for each one.
The NAET certification is the one worth pausing on. It is what allows the practice to offer allergy elimination without medication, and it is not a credential most acupuncturists on Long Island carry.
★★★★★Joe is the best acupuncturist around & highly recommended. He is very in depth approach in his treatments & great at reading what my needs are and treats accordingly. Ive been coming here for many years.

His Practice
How Joe works
Joe has said that most people do not get the personalized medical care they want and need. Too often a patient is quickly diagnosed, handed a prescription, and sent out the door with very little conversation in between.
He built The Balance Health and Wellness Center around the opposite idea. Bring a wide range of holistic treatments under one roof, give patients room to explain what is actually going on, and treat the cause rather than the symptom. That approach has been the foundation of the practice since it opened in 2004.
Joe starts with the history. What brought you in, what has been going on and for how long, what has already been tried, and what has changed recently. Patients consistently describe the same experience: he listens first, explains what he is seeing, and then treats what is actually there.
None of that is unusual as an idea. What is unusual is the time it takes, and the fact that the appointment is built to allow for it rather than squeezed around it.
From there he builds a plan around the individual rather than the diagnosis. Two people with the same complaint often need different treatments, and the plan gets adjusted as your body responds. If you are unsure whether a treatment is right for you, the front desk can walk you through it before you book anything.
That first conversation is also where a plan stops being a single treatment. Back pain driven by stress that will not switch off often ends up as acupuncture and reiki rather than point work alone. A restriction left behind by an old injury is more likely to become acupuncture with Active Release Therapy. The evaluation decides that, not a menu.
Because Joe practices across acupuncture, herbal medicine, and massage, and because the center houses more than twenty treatments, care can be layered rather than fragmented. Acupuncture and massage in the same appointment. Cupping alongside Active Release Therapy. Herbal support running in parallel with a detox program.
Patients travel for this. The practice has treated people from across Long Island, from Manhattan to Montauk, and clients have flown in from as far as Hawaii to be seen at the Kings Park office.
It is also why a course of care here rarely looks like one thing repeated. A detox program can run in parallel with herbal support. Cupping can be added to a session already underway. Nothing has to be rebooked at another practice to make it happen.
The Balance Health and Wellness Center accepts insurance, and many treatments are covered. Benefits are verified before a first visit so there are no surprises at checkout.
Joe keeps two offices open on opposite shores for the same reason. Care should be close to home. The Lindenhurst center covers the South Shore and holds the full menu, including the detox center and colon hydrotherapy. The Kings Park office serves the North Shore communities around Smithtown and Commack.
Recognition
Voted best on Long Island since 2011
Local Long Island publications have voted Joseph D'Antona the area's best acupuncturist, and have named The Balance Health and Wellness Center best for massage therapy every year since 2011. He has served the Kings Park community for more than sixteen years, and the North Shore office is part of the Kings Park Revitalization project.
Recognition that runs that long is harder to earn than a single award year. It means the practice held its standard through an office move, a growing treatment menu, and a genuine shift in how many people were willing to consider holistic care at all. Twenty years in, the reasons patients give for staying are the same ones they gave at the start. They get listened to, and the treatment is built for them rather than pulled off a shelf.
